“White Niagara” is inspired by the frozen cascades of ice and mist in the depths of a Niagara winter. It captures the raw power and mystery of cascading water through a masterful interplay of light and shadow. The blurred, almost spectral figure at its center evokes a sense of solitude and reverence, standing before the luminous veil of the falls. Deep, moody blues and blacks frame the composition, enhancing the ethereal glow of the rushing water, which seems to vibrate with movement. This piece exemplifies the artist’s signature ability to transform light into an immersive, almost spiritual experience. His pieces are thick with multiple layers of paint and revolve around water. He painted “White Niagra” in Cleveland at The Hartshorn Gallery.
Peter Hartshorn is a fourth generation artist who works with acrylics to capture remote and extreme landscapes throughout the world. His travels as an exploration geologist have taken him to the far reaches of every continent. Painting became an important creative outlet while he worked overseas, where he was inspired to capture the colors and moods of these exotic places. One of his art shows was entitled “Remote Places”.
Since his retirement as a geologist, he enjoys being an “extreme” sportsman exploring nature, which has included spending 45 days hiking the Pyrenees Mountains, which straddles the border of France and Spain.
Peter has had gallery showings in Caracas, Venezuela, Cleveland, and San Diego. He is also the brother of Cleveland artist, Robert Hartshorn, who is also an artist featured in our gallery. Peter currently lives in San Diego, California.
